Fiction is an essential part of human life. Man has an inherent demand for diversion to get away, even if for a few moments, in the temptations of life. Story telling has been among the first ways of accomplishing this and above the ages it has grown into the diverse types of entertainment we’ve got in the present day world. Entertainment is essentially of two kinds – passive and active. The busy entails physical participation in one way or other, while the passive doesn’t. Fiction is basically a passive amusement though the mind has an important role within it. Fiction constantly involves visualization whether it’s covert or overt. The first form of overt visualization has been that the enacting of dramas since the cultures developed. The growth of technology introduced in its modern forms – theater and television. The key type is inherent to story telling and reading. It is an inherent feature of the individual (or perhaps any) mind that a thought is always accompanied by an image. So as soon as one reads or hears a story the brain visualizes the scene and the characters; this procedure continues throughout the narrative and often even after it’s ended.
Character growth can be among the most important things about writing fiction. You want to produce a realistic group of personalities to move your plot together and to do that you need to know them. But how much can you really have to know about them before you start composing?
Well, that depends on the kind of story you are writing. The period of your narrative will dictate the amount of character information you’ll have to create them come to life. For simplicity sake, I have broken my personality sheet down into what I use for every type of writing. Your character sheets might vary.
Fiction with its very definition is unreal. When we see a novel we know that the narrative and the characters in it are only a product of creativity of the author. When we view a movie we are aware that the characters are just acting their parts essentially pretending to be somebody other than themselves. Still we’re mentally affected by the turns and twists in the story. We laugh with them, weep together, and even sense indignant towards the bad guys. The lovable hero or heroine might be despicable in actual life and the protagonist might be a perfect gentleman, but we identify them using the characters they are portraying. In essence for that brief period we ourselves get hauled to the imaginary world of the author. Oddly enough this happens too with the author at least to some of these. He or she goes through the same emotions while composing and perhaps later as well. All right, we have gone over the first couple of points regarding check, of course you recognize they play a significant role. Of course we strongly suggest you learn more about them. However, you will discover them to be of great utility in your research for information. Once your knowledge is more complete, then you will feel more confident about the subject. But we have saved the best for last, and you will know what we mean as soon as you have read through.
“Knowledge is limited, imagination is not.” Albert Einstein explained that even though the wording of the next part might have been different. Einstein like any other human being was not infallible. A number of his views that he held right till the ending turned out to be incorrect in the field of physics. In this particular announcement also he seems to have it backwards. Knowledge may be restricted in the case of someone but generally it’s unlimited even if we consider just logical understanding leaving apart transcendental. Science in particular has shown this at each step in the course of its own development. Imagination pertains to a single mind and is constrained by numerous things based on the situation of the person. A mind can envision only what happens in some way to matters already stored inside. Someone who has never been outside a remote location in jungle and has no contact with the world outside cannot envision what metropolitan cities would be like.
Getting back to fiction that the creativity of the writer also has to be predicated on his direct or indirect experiences. In this sense fiction relies on fact and to that extent it represents another dimension of truth. Here of course we run into the philosophical problem of the exact significance of reality. You will find two diametrically opposite views – materialistic and spiritualistic. In accordance with the prior only things which can be perceived through our senses are real, everything else is unreal. The latter maintains that there’s one ultimate fact from which we perceive comes out and what that’s perceived is only an illusion. We again look at a statement by Einstein: “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one.” He was obviously referring to the reality of this phenomenal world. The term illusion can have different connotations but generally it means perceiving something as different from what it is. So the existence of this thing is a prerequisite for illusion, it isn’t a mental construction. Imagination is purely a mental phenomenon and has nothing to do with anything actually existing. Therefore the relationship between fiction and reality is completely different from that between illusion and reality. It does take some time to write a complete story for any kind of book.
At a philosophical sense that the incredible world itself may be considered fiction. That is what Shakespeare possibly meant when he wrote: “All the world’s a stage, and all men and women merely players”. We may as well think of everything in the universe (space, time, issue) as gamers because everything has its own entry and exit. We naturally run into the issue of stating what the point is and who wrote the script. Shakespeare most probably believed in God, strict determinism, and at the reality of the world, so he did not have this issue. Now it’s generally believed that the world also has a beginning and will have an end. If the universe is also a player, are there multiple universes or does this come alone on the platform then presents other players? But what’s the point in this case? Quantum physics points to one possibility. At extremely small scales of space and time there is a quantum void that is not really empty but filled with energy that is constantly changing itself into virtual particles as well as back. What remains after the conclusion of the world could possibly be an infinite version of this quantum emptiness full of energy into which all the matter has transformed itself. This universal energy is the source of and background for everything.
It isn’t only a philosophical point either. We spend a considerable part of our life from the imagined or fictional universe. We muse about the things in future and also live over the prior imagining what could have been. The imagination about the future is dependent on our hopes and aspirations and also to some extent it is a positive in the sense that we’re in a position to mould our future if we sincerely try. But musing over the past is a futile exercise because we know for a fact that ‘what might have been’ is only fantasy that never happened. Nevertheless it serves the same purpose as fiction from the perspective of entertainment. We entertain ourselves by imagining how life would have been, knowing fully well that it has no reality whatsoever. In a metaphorical sense past, at the remote past, is fiction. In a certain sense history is fiction since it invariably includes the subjective bias of the author. What we understand of Buddha and Jesus today is more fiction than facts.
